Irish Touring Car Championship set to star at ‘Leinster Trophy’ race weekend
The Leinster Motor Club’s traditional curtain closing ‘Leinster Trophy’ event hits the Mondello Park circuit the weekend of the 17/18th September with the JOMO Engineering sponsored final rounds of the Irish Touring Car Championship (ITCC) set to star again.
In only its second season the ITCC has grown into one of the most exciting series’ in Irish motor-racing drawing both large entries and fans for each round. Having ventured across the Irish Sea to Wales’ Anglesey Circuit and up north to ‘Ireland’s Fastest Circuit’ in Kirkistown it is only fitting that the series should come to a conclusion with the 13-14th rounds taking place at the Mondello Park.
Having taken the overall ITCC championship in 2010 Martin Tracey heads to Mondello to take the honours for the newly created Super Touring class but just because the Sierra Cosworth RS500 driver has the class wrapped up does not mean racing will not be as exciting as ever. Ciaran Timmons is set to debut his ex-BTCC Peugeot 307, Jonathon Brady will be out in his SEAT Leon Supercopa and Philip Burdock will be back on track in his freshly built B-Racing Honda Civic and a certain Mr Whelan is sure to make a big impact on his return.
The Touring class of the ITCC still wide open with the weekend’s action set to determine the inaugural Touring class champion. Danny Calnan currently holds the advantage but with the experienced Keith Rabbitt and the improving Anthony Murtagh breathing down his neck it is still anybody’s game.
Whatever the outcome the Irish Touring Car Championship promises fast car, great drivers and exciting door to door racing.

Note to editors –
The Irish Touring Car Championship (ITCC) is was started in 2010 by drivers Philip Burdock and Brian Sexton, under the name of BSR Events, as a means of offering a low cost entry into Irish motorsport. The series is open to road based saloon and hatchback cars and since the beginning has attracted both experienced racers and those making their first forays into circuit racing. For 2011 a new class system was introduced that separated experienced, company backed drivers from the clubman drivers. This move saw both fields bolstered with many drivers stepping up from track-days to take part in the new Touring class.
